Chrysler confirmed yesterday that the new RAM 1500 will get its noted 8-speed transmission. They plan to mate this new transmission with a slightly smaller engine that currently found in the RAM 1500. The new engine will be the Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 engine that is found in nearly every other Chrysler Group Product. New engine and transmission combination is expected to produce 215 horsepower and 235 lb-ft of torque, which is more than the current 3.7-liter offers.
Chrysler has not put out any official numbers on what the new RAM 1500 will offer with the new engine-transmission but expected horsepower numbers are a solid improvement and the fuel economy should just with the new transmission. Meaning the new RAM 1500 will deliver more power for less fuel, the perfect combination for hard-working men and women today.
The Chrysler Group has estimated that the 8-speed transmission improves fuel economy about 12% on average, but that number can change drastically depending on the vehicle in which it is placed. Based on current fuel economy numbers of the RAM 1500, a 15% increase in fuel economy would put the new numbers at 15.6 mpg city and 22.4 mpg highway…making the RAM 1500 one of the most fuel efficient trucks on the market.
