For 2013, the Italian automaker has decided to drop yet another version of the little bombshell known as the 500 here in the States. Last year, when the Fiat 500 was introduced, it was only available as the cute and fun loving 500 or the fun-to-drive but punishing 500 Abarth. The company listened to its customers and created this excellent compromise of power and everyday drivability.
The Fiat 500 Turbo is positioned right in between the other two models. It adds a turbocharger, smaller than the Abarth’s, to the 1.4 liter four cylinder engine. Compared to the normally aspirated 500’s 101 horsepower and the Abarth’s 160, drivers will find it a neat compromise between the two. The turbo provides a little extra pep and makes the car a bit sportier without overstepping the line into complete sports car territory. The same goes for many other aspects of the car including the suspension, steering, exhaust, and shift knob. Everything is tuned to appeal to drivers who want a bit more engagement. Even the red painted brake calipers and the slightly wider front fascia contribute in their own little ways. The Fiat 500 Turbo also gets a Beats by Dr. Dre audio system that includes 6 speakers, an 8-inch subwoofer, and an 8-channel, 368 watt amp.
