Chrysler Plans Next-Generation Minivan with Nine-Speed Transmission and Available AWD

2014 Dodge Grand CaravanIt’s no secret that Chrysler has been seriously re-thinking their minivan offerings recently. It’s beginning to look like Chrysler will stop production on the Dodge Grand Caravan and put more focus on the Chrysler Town & Country. The next-generation minivan would feature updated looks along with several substantial upgrades to the drivetrain and other features, keeping it in line with the rest of Chrysler’s offerings.

Drivers can expect to see a number of great updates, not least of which includes Chrysler’s new nine-speed automatic transmission that has been pulling duty in the 2014 Jeep Cherokee already and is slated to appear in the new 2015 Chrysler 200 as well. This modern transmission maximizes performance and fuel efficiency by offering the optimal number of gears for a light-weight vehicle while still offering the same traditional feel and performance.

Also slated to make an appearance in the next-generation minivan from Chrysler, a new AWD system with a complete rear-axle disconnect will help to improve efficiency on models equipped with the available AWD. Available all-wheel drive is a feature that has not been available on one of Chrysler’s minivans for several years now and should be a welcome addition for drivers in areas with frequent bad weather. Other updates, including an improved Stow ‘N Go seating system, the latest version of Uconnect, and more should also be included.
