Three-Point Shoot-Out Between Fiat Chrysler Robot And San Antonio Spur: Who Wins?

Besides being responsible for the export of fine leather, great Westerns starring Clint Eastwood, and some of the world’s greatest art, you should be aware that Italy also exports championship-quality basketball players and basketball-playing robots.

For those of you who don’t know, other than creating great automobiles, Fiat Chrysler is also in the robot business (no, they didn’t purchase a subsidiary called Skynet, either). The basketball-playing robot in question is the Comau Racer. Made by Fiat in Italy, it’s designed for things like arc welding and assembly. But it’s programmable and it can also “work safely with humans.” Now, how to demonstrate these facts…

“The traditional way of showcasing robots is quite boring,” said Comau Robotics COO Mathias Wiklund. While we here at Cumberland Chrysler Center can’t say we’re sure what “the traditional way of showcasing robots” means, the result is a pretty cool little video.

San Antonio Spurs shooting guard Marco Belinelli goes head-to-head with the Racer in a three-point shoot-off. We won’t give away who wins but we’ll just say that Italy sure knows how to make a great three-point shooter, be it man or machine!
