Dodge Dart Price Gets Lowered, Loses Entry-Level Trim

Following announcements in January that Fiat Chrysler will gradually phase out the Dodge Dart, a compact car launched in 2012, the brand has also revealed that the final iteration of the vehicle will get a price cut and fewer models, meaning more features will come standard per trim level. The Dodge Dart price cut applies to the Dart’s SXT Sport model, which will become the nameplate’s new entry-level trim after the SE trim is discontinued.

The trend in the auto industry over the past few years has been more in favor of larger vehicles such as SUVs and crossovers, while vehicles in the compact and mid-size car segments have seen a significant decrease in sales. Tim Kuniskis, the head of FCA’s passenger car brands, commented on this phenomenon in a press release, stating, “We are repositioning the Dart lineup to better align production and dealer inventory with consumer demand and preference.”

The 2016 Dodge Dart SXT Sport will reportedly be about $1,400 less than the current Dart SXT, at a total base price of $17,995. The standard 160-hp 2.0-liter engine can be paired with either a manual or automatic transmission. There are also three available packages, the Chrome package, the Rallye package, and the Blacktop package, all of which add purely cosmetic changes to the Dodge Dart’s exterior.

The goal in lowering the Dodge Dart price, consolidating several trim levels, and offering distinct exterior packages is to help dealers better meet the expectations of their consumers and boost sales. The original Dart provided too many customization options, which made ordering certain models of the Dodge Dart difficult for dealers, because they weren’t sure which colors, exterior options, trim levels, and packages would appeal to customers.
