The Midwest Media Association Names Chrysler 200 Family Vehicle of The Year

Family vehicle of the year

The Chicago Auto Show brought many exciting new developments, revelations, and announcements to the automotive world this past February – especially the Midwest Media Association’s (MAMA) naming the 2015 Chrysler 200 Family Vehicle of the Year. Boasting luxury and value, the Chrysler 200 allows families to choose from four different models all of which include improved fuel efficiency with added safety and security features.

In order to qualify for the award, the four door cars must be priced less than $50,000 and appear at one of MAMA’s two annual rallies to be evaluated by 99 MAMA journalists. Featuring over 100 vehicles for journalists to drive and assess, the contending vehicles must also be new or considerably updated since its rally held the previous May.

This year marks the fifth consecutive year MAMA has awarded the Family Vehicle of the Year. “We know how important it is, and how difficult it can be, to pick the right family car,” said Patrick Olsen, MAMA President. “This award helps give consumers a chance to see the car that nearly a hundred automotive journalists –many with families themselves — selected as the best choice for families in 2015.”

Ever since the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 was revealed at the North American International Auto Show earlier this year, we’ve been waiting excitedly for the vehicle to become available. Now that the brand’s redesigned flagship sedan has arrived, we are happy to report that the automaker’s re-branding efforts are paying off and sales of the new 200 are on track to make a big splash in the mid-size sedan category.
Initial sales began at the end of May with more than 500 units finding new homes. By the end of June, Chrysler announced the 200 had sold approximately ten times that amount in its first full month of sales. At this rate, Chrysler’s new sedan will continue to give competitors a run for their money.
“Month-over-month sales of our all-new Chrysler 200 increased from a few hundred units in May to more than 5,000 in June as inventory of the mid-size sedan continues to build,” said Reid Bigland, Chrysler Group’s head of U.S. sales.
Chrysler Group also stated in a press release that it currently takes an average of just 12 days from its arrival at the dealership for the new 200 to be sold.
That means you shouldn’t dawdle in heading to Cumberland Chrysler. As of this writing, we have four 200s in our inventory, but who knows how long they will be here. Hurry on over and get your 2015 Chrysler 200 today.

What You Need to Know about Chrysler’s Nine-Speed Transmission

2015 Chrysler 200 9-Speed TransmissionAlong with the all-new 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chrysler Group introduced the segment’s first nine-speed automatic transmission. Despite its complexity, there is only one thing you really need to know about the advanced technology: the nine-speed provides increased fuel economy and performance.

As regulations for fuel efficiency become stricter, automakers are working to meet requirements without sacrificing performance. The nine-speed transmission is Chrysler Group’s solution.

Chrysler Group developed the design for the transmission in partnership with ZF Friedrichshafen.

Because the nine-speed offers a wider range of gears, it allows the engine to operate at its most efficient speed. If that means the engine is able to function most effectively while spinning at a slower rate, the nine-speed’s smaller increments between gear shifts enables it to do so. As a result, less gas is consumed and fuel efficiency increases by up to 16 percent.

Though the gearbox is now home to three additional gears in comparison to the six-speed automatic, Chrysler Group has managed to contain the transmission within a package of approximately the same size and weight.

In addition, the transmission allows drivers to shift through multiple gears at once, adding a little pep to the vehicle’s step.

The Truth About Cars’ website offers a more detailed explanation of Chrysler Group’s nine-speed transmission, which will soon find its way into the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 and Jeep Renegade. Or, you can just stop by Cumberland Chrysler and do some interactive research in the 2014 Jeep Cherokee.

2015 Chrysler 200 Gets 36 Miles to the Gallon for Ultimate Gas Savings

2015 Chrysler 200 - RearThe all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 achieves 36 miles to the gallon on the highway, adding to its already impressive value and quality at only $21,700 starting U.S. MSRP.

The Chrysler 200 offers a choice of two engines: the fuel-sipping 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir®2 I-4 engine and the award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, both of which come with the industry’s first standard nine-speed automatic in a mid-size sedan.

The Tigershark is a consumer’s dream engine. With 184 horsepower and 173 pound-feet of torque, it produces enough power to get the job done—whether that job is going up hills, carrying passengers, or overtaking other cars. This is all done at minimal fuel cost, delivering an EPA highway fuel economy rating of 36 miles per gallon.

The Pentastar is for the drivers who want a bit more kick to their car. It produces 295 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, more than any engine in its class, while still delivering a good fuel economy rating of 32 mpg highway.
