Waiting for News of the 2017 Dodge Dart SRT – This Should Be Good

Dodge Dart SRT Coming SoonWith Chrysler Group’s announcement of a 2017 Dodge Dart SRT scheduled to arrive on the scene in late 2016, the rumors are flying. The automaker is enjoying the suspenseful silence, offering few details other than what can be found in the company’s five year plan. Here’s what we at Cumberland Chrysler have deduced:

The anticipated Dart SRT will likely be based on the previous Dodge Caliber SRT while aiming to embody some of the fight the Neon SRT model possessed.

The Caliber SRT was a front-wheel drive powerhouse producing 285 hp and 265 pounds per feet of torque. TorqueNews guestimates the Dodge Dart SRT will get a modernized edition of a similar 2.4-liter turbocharged engine that will pack at least that much power. The inclusion of all-wheel drive will make it an even more formidable competitor among its Japanese rivals.

Speaking of competitors, even with the performance we expect the new Dart SRT to display, it will likely cost less than similar performance vehicles if the current pricing is any indication. A Dodge Dart Limited with all the boxes checked still costs less than competitors’ models.

We’ll have to wait for Chrysler to confirm our suspicions, but so far it seems like the 2017 Dodge Dart SRT will be the model to watch.

Dodge Dart GT Offers More Power and Fun

Dodge Dart GTThe new 2013 Dodge Dart is one of the most popular compact cars on the road today for several good reasons. With more space, better technology, and a nicer interior than other compact and sub-compact cars on the road today, the Dart has a lot going for it. One thing that drivers are still begging for though is more power and a sportier setup, something to follow in the footsteps of popular SRT models of the past like the SRT4.

Dodge Dart GT InteriorThat’s where the Dodge Dart GT comes in. Dark-grey, 17-inch wheels and a blacked-out front grille set the GT model apart from other Darts on the outside while an upscale interior with race-style black leather seats with red stitching, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift, a soft-touch instrument panel, a customizable TFT (thin-film transistor) display, and an optional moonroof make it a nice car to be driving or riding in. The real differences are mechanical though.

First, the Dart GT gets a more powerful, 2.4-Liter Tigershark 4-cylinder with MultiAir II, making 184 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. This engine has more responsive acceleration and a tuned exhaust note for a more engaging experience. Revised suspension (including a sport-tuned MacPhearson strut setup up front and a bi-link independent suspension in the rear) makes for better handling and less body roll in the corners. Finally, a revised six-speed manual or automatic transmission offers crisper shifts for better acceleration.

While it’s no SRT model, the 2013 Dodge Dart GT does offer a more aggressive option for car-buyers who want a compact with some hutzpah. Stop by Cumberland Chrysler Center in Cookeville, TN for more information or to check one out in person.
