Staying prepared is essential for handling emergency situations. That why you should always carry a well-stocked roadside emergency kit. We’ve put together a list of some of the most important supplies to bring in case you get stranded on the side of the road.
According to Edmunds, the most basic roadside emergency kit should have the following items:
- Jumper cables are essential. These should be portable and high-quality cables, capable of reaching at least 25 feet. You never know when your battery is going to die.
- Flares or triangle reflectors are great for getting attention. You need to be able to alert drivers to your situation.
- A first aid kit is great for any medical emergency. Look for one stocked with bandages disinfectant, stitching materials, and more.
- Spare fluids will work in a pinch. This includes coolant (or a gallon of water that can double as drinking water), oil, and transmission fluid.
- A basic tool kit with duct tape is also great for emergencies. You may need a screwdriver (both flat and Phillips), a pair of pliers, and an adjustable wrench. Duct tape is great for slowing leaks in an emergency.
- Batteries and a flashlight are essentials for nighttime. Not only will a flashlight help you see, but it also keeps you calm in scary situations.
- Finally, always carry Fix-a-Flat or another tire-patching kit. This will work if your spare is missing or flat, though such kits are not meant for long-term repairs.
These are just the basics. Keep your kit well stocked, and be sure to replenish supplies every few months. Make sure batteries work, and always add or remove items depending on your specific situation and driving habits.
Following announcements in January that Fiat Chrysler will gradually phase out the Dodge Dart, a compact car launched in 2012, the brand has also revealed that the final iteration of the vehicle will get a price cut and fewer models, meaning more features will come standard per trim level. The Dodge Dart price cut applies to the Dart’s SXT Sport model, which will become the nameplate’s new entry-level trim after the SE trim is discontinued.
The trend in the auto industry over the past few years has been more in favor of larger vehicles such as SUVs and crossovers, while vehicles in the compact and mid-size car segments have seen a significant decrease in sales. Tim Kuniskis, the head of FCA’s passenger car brands, commented on this phenomenon in a press release, stating, “We are repositioning the Dart lineup to better align production and dealer inventory with consumer demand and preference.”
The 2016 Dodge Dart SXT Sport will reportedly be about $1,400 less than the current Dart SXT, at a total base price of $17,995. The standard 160-hp 2.0-liter engine can be paired with either a manual or automatic transmission. There are also three available packages, the Chrome package, the Rallye package, and the Blacktop package, all of which add purely cosmetic changes to the Dodge Dart’s exterior.
The goal in lowering the Dodge Dart price, consolidating several trim levels, and offering distinct exterior packages is to help dealers better meet the expectations of their consumers and boost sales. The original Dart provided too many customization options, which made ordering certain models of the Dodge Dart difficult for dealers, because they weren’t sure which colors, exterior options, trim levels, and packages would appeal to customers.
Minivans, despite falling out of style in recent years, are just as much an emblem of soccer-mom suburbia nowadays as they were during their heydey in the 90s. Now that Chrysler is trying to take advantage of the lack of competitors in the segment with the new Pacifica, the brand is doing its best to broaden the appeal of the minivan to attract a more widespread variety of customers. Their first target? Dads. Jim Gaffigan is the face of the new Chrysler Pacifica ad campaign, which appeals to dads everywhere that minivans aren’t just a mom thing.
Historically, minivans have been stereotyped as being purely associated with women. Most people have a mental image of vans being stuffed full of groceries after a suburban housewife’s grocery shopping spree. However, Gaffigan, creator of TV Land’s “The Jim Gaffigan Show,” spearheads a series of online and TV ads that highlight all the features and functions of the new Chrysler Pacifica — and why “considerate, caring” fathers should put the Pacifica on their must-have list.
Chrysler conceptualized the ad campaign in order to draw attention to the fact that the Pacifica is a minivan for a new generation of parents, a generation in which both parents work and take care of the children equally. Olivier Francois, the chief marketing officer of FCA, says that Gaffigan was chosen because he represents the modern parent.
“He has five children — all five in a 3-12 age range typical of minivan buyers,” said Francois in a press release. “He is married to his business partner wife. They both work full-time. They have an active schedule with their children, and they are always on the go. We were not looking for just a famous face. We were looking for the epitome of the American minivan family, and Jim brings both.”
The Chrysler Pacifica ad campaign insists that minivans aren’t just for mom or for dad — they’re for the modern American family. The idea was to challenge conventions and make a father the proud driver of the Pacifica minivan.
The New York Auto Show was full of product reveals and vehicle launches, but among them, one big debut certainly stood out: the all-new 2017 Chrysler 300S Sport Appearance Packages.
These new packages aim to add more “athletic attitude” to the 2017 Chrysler 300S, with cosmetic changes both interior and exterior, including “a more aggressive front fascia, unique LED fog lamps, plus sculpted side sills and deck-lid spoiler.”
On the inside, you’ll find luxurious, perforated leather performance seats with suede contours, as well as various appointed interior accents and new materials throughout the interior.
Plus, the new packages will be standard on the 300S V8 model, while still available on the 300S V6 models. This means that any of the trim levels are at least eligible for this sporty upgrade.
Pricing is still unavailable for these premium packages, but early orders are scheduled to begin in August. Until then, keep in touch with us at Cumberland Chrysler Center to learn more!
One of the greatest road hazards of the spring months is rain, which sometimes seems to be unavoidable. This year, prepare yourself for driving in the rain with these safety tips:
- Remember that the most dangerous time to drive in the rain is the first 10 minutes or so after the rain begins, when the roads are most slippery.
- When driving in the rain, be sure to always reduce your speed, which will give you more control.
- Avoid hazardous puddles, and never drive through standing bodies of water. In fact – just 12 inches of water can cause your vehicle to float away.
- Increase the distance between your vehicle and the vehicles around you, just in case any driver loses control.
- And lastly, avoid using cruise control, which decreases your control over the vehicle and can lead to hydroplaning.

Tennessee is known for its beautiful nature. We at Cumberland Chrysler Center are proud to live and work in a state which offers diverse and varied landscape, family-friendly recreational activities, and hundreds of educational programming options.
Tennessee has many state parks that are open to the public every day throughout the year. There is a great variety in parks, from cypress swamps, to rich forests, and rugged mountains.
One of our favorite parks to explore is Cummins Falls State Park. This is an idyllic yet rugged 211-acre park located north of Cookeville. Since it is situated in the Cordell Hull Watershed area, there is a scenic spot and swimming area. Cummins Falls is the eighth-largest waterfall (based upon volume) in Tennessee and is 75 feet high.
There is a gorge area which is unaltered by humans. Both the gorge and the waterfall can only be accessed on foot, and the scenery along the hike is breathtaking. However, take caution when hiking, as the trail can become steep and slippery. The trail includes natural features such as water crossings, boulders, and other obstacles.
We encourage you to take a picnic to eat at the picnic area at the trailhead, before or after you hike. Enjoy all that Tennessee has to offer, especially Cummins Falls State Park.
